《皇家律师》是一部关于生命，爱情以及站在刑事法律最前线，面对疑难案件的律师的故事。剧本由凭借迷你剧《司法正义》获得英国奥斯卡BAFTA最佳编剧的皮特·莫法特执笔。Silk是一种非正式的俗称，事实上指的是皇室法律顾问，作为成员，皇家律师们必须身着特殊设计的丝质长袍，佩戴金黄色或灰色或白色的，有三个卷曲的假发。

奥斯卡（大卫·本奈特 David Bennent 饰）的家庭有些荒诞。他的母亲和自己的表弟相恋，由于近亲不能结婚，所以被迫嫁给了一位商人。奥斯卡是谁的孩子只有他母亲知道。在他三岁生日那天，母亲送了他一面铁皮鼓。奥斯卡十分喜欢，整天挂在脖子上敲。
