《真爱谎言》以一贫一富的两个现代家庭为中心，从两个谎言引起一段家庭伦理人性的故事。故事由一个母亲竭尽所能去爱护一个患有沟通阻碍的儿子中开始。母亲叫胡钟秀（潘虹饰），是一个百货公司的大老板，拥有很多金钱和崇高的社会地位。在一般老百姓眼中，她能呼风唤雨，应该是没有什么苦恼的富人。然而，真实的她却有很多说不出的无奈和遗憾。她有一个对她不忠不义的丈夫，一个患有沟通阻碍症的儿子姜希宇（李易峰饰），一个反叛的女儿姜希妮（杜十五饰）。这家人的生活因为姜希宇（李易峰饰）跟徐盈（薛凯琪饰）相遇，希宇爱上了一个在感情上受了伤害，很难再爱人的女护士徐盈，胡钟秀为了让儿子得到所爱，用尽不同方法来把徐盈拉进希宇的身边，因此，这两个南辕北辙的家庭从此走在一起，导致日后发生很多种种纠缠不清的关系……
