本作は「ドクターX～外科医・大門未知子～」のスピンオフドラマシリーズ第5弾。東帝大学病院を追われたあと、私立の名門・成鏡大学病院に客員准教授として招かれた加地秀樹の姿が描かれる。加地はそこでバスケットボール界の若きスーパースター・大根類の手術をサポートするために呼ばれたフリーランスの麻酔科医・城之内博美と再会。なんとか東帝大復帰への足がかりを作ろうと画策していく。
