本片展示了舞台生活的内幕和一位无名姑娘如何登上明星宝座的经历。本片是编导孟基維茲根据广播剧“The Wisdom of Eve”改編而成，剧本结构比“日落大道”严密而实在，对白更充滿机智与辛辣的攻击性，恰如其份的揭示了舞台后的黑暗。
