古谚云“生于苏杭，葬于北邙”。北邙即邙山，是洛阳北侧一片100多公里的丘陵地带。它是洛阳的天然屏障，也是军事上的战略要地。千百年来，从汉魏至隋唐，经五代到宋元。无数帝王将相，富商巨贾，文人雅士，寻常百姓都葬于洛阳邙山。本片以考古发掘为线索，以文化探究为方向，探寻中国的墓葬文化，神秘的龙脉文化，河洛文化，从生死归葬这一角度看帝国的繁华兴衰，政经变迁，探寻中国大一统的内在联系。
