《影城大亨》的故事蓝本取材于香港富豪、邵氏及电视广播公司掌门人邵逸夫的传奇一生。剧中陶大宇饰演的温月庭的经历，明显地带有邵逸夫年轻时的影子；刘嘉玲所饰演的雷梦华让人看到方逸华的个性特质；方中信饰演的仇文杰也与邹文怀一样，与老板决裂、另起炉灶；黎耀祥饰演的贺志祥则与现实生活中的何冠昌有几许相似之处。他们都是当今香港影视界的风云人物。
